This week, we have a brilliant guest blog from Alina, Wedding Planner at the stunning Glenview Hotel, Co. Wicklow wedding venue. Alina has given us amazing ideas for alternative centrepieces to flowers and told us about some great wedding trends.
“More and more we are seeing herbs as part of wedding decorations, but is not something new at all, in fact we are returning to very old traditions. From the Ancient Roman Times to the Victorians, herbs were always part of the wedding celebrations.”
“In the Roman Times herbs were used to protect the future of the Couple and believed to have magical powers to scare off evil spirits.”
“Rosemary is believed to be the symbol for remembrance and fidelity; Dill is said to be the herb of lust; Thyme signifies courage and strength; Lavender is for devotion, desire and luck; Mint is for warm feelings and was also believed to be an aphrodisiac; Basil for good wishes; Sage is a herb of wisdom and domestic virtue; Parsley means festivity and Oregano means joy & happiness!”
“The good news is that the trend is back and it is better and lovelier than ever! Not only do fresh herbs cost less than the traditional wedding flowers, especially in the autumn & winter, but they also look great, and bring meaning and wonderful fragrances to your guest’s tables.”

That was the case for Stephanie & Ross, who had their wedding here with us, at the Glenview Hotel, this October. They both share a great passion for food and cooking, and that was the inspiration for their theme! I always encourage and believe that a wedding should reflect the couple, their passions and personalities.”
“Instead of using table numbers, we called each table a different herb, and that herb was presented as a centrepiece in silver pot, to match the colour scheme, of course. It’s the little details that are essential, “little things make big things happen!”
“The centrepieces can also make the perfect favours for your guests to take home. But Ross & Stephanie went the extra mile in spreading the love! With the help of Stephanie’s Mum, they prepared homemade jam as favours to all the guests. They had very unique flavours like Strawberry & Champagne, Blackberry & Merlot Jam, Bourbon Whiskey Marmalade, and Red Chilli Jelly. So thoughtful and beautifully presented, together with the hand written labels, they also made the perfect place names!”
“And to finish it off, our lovely couple even made their very own Wedding Cake!”
