Not too long ago, the brilliant Sarah of Fota Island Resort and Spa shared a few tips on how to plan your wedding. Here is part two of her expert tips on planning your wedding and keeping calm!

You have probably seen a lot of nervous brides and grooms on their wedding day! What is a good way for them to keep calm and collected?

Keeping the ‘inner bride’ calm and collective is extremely important in the run up to your special day. Two tips I find great are to firstly, being organised and secondly ensuring you get plenty of fresh air and exercise leading up big day. I know being organised may seem very obvious, but there is a lot to be said for keeping track of every little task and sticking to it! I swear by ‘To Do’ lists as they really keep you focused. Keeping track of all the little tasks without losing sight of any important details can be a challenge. You don’t want that one little job to get caught up in all the excitement!
I am also a strong believer in a little exercise & fresh air to help clear any nervous jitters that might be lingering in the run up to the big day. A lot of brides I have met in the past have enjoyed simple exercises such as yoga to help calm nerves and the busy planning schedule. Remember that taking that little time out will help you focus on the important aspects of your big day.

Why not assign a family member or friend to be a ‘point of contact’ for any little requests that your guests may have on your big day? This is a great tip to help take the pressure off both the bride and groom. You will feel that little bit more comfortable when away for photos, greeting guests and catching up with friends and family. Remember it is your wedding day after all, relax and enjoy the time you have surrounded by all your family and friends. Don’t let your big day nerves spoil your big day. Anxiety and butterflies show how deep your feelings are and just how much your wedding day means to you, so enjoy every minute of it!

There is so much involved in planning a wedding. What is the one thing that often creeps up on couples when it comes to planning and organising?

Lots of planning goes in to making your dream wedding a reality. I believe that every moment of your special day is a memory that should be captured and treasured forever to look back on. Taking time to research and discuss your wedding photographer is essential. Capture every special moment surrounded by your friends and family that will bind together many different stories and memories that will last a life time. Deciding on classic pose or laid back story telling is your decision so be sure to do a little research so you know what can be achieved.

How far in advance should couples decide on their menus?

Well I am such a foodie person, so yes, I love talking menus! Ideally 2-3 months ahead of your wedding date. This allows you plenty of time for you to discuss different options if you don’t make your final decision on the night of your tasting. It’s always a great idea to take a photo or two as it can be difficult to remember every little detail in one sitting. It’s important to pick a well balanced menu that will appeal to all your guests, so don’t be afraid to ask both your wedding coordinator and chef for their advice in any area that you might need some tips and pointers.
