Momzilla: When to Tell Your Ma to Back Off

Momzilla: When to Tell Your Ma to Back Off

DON’T get us wrong, we love our moms. They reared us and every Irish child that’s worth their salt knows that Irish moms are pretty much amazing. But, if your ma is getting a little too involved in your big day plans, it’s only fair that you let her know. Here’s how to handle a few momzilla situations.

When Momzilla Takes Over The Guest List

It started out as you asking her for help and contact details for relatives. But somehow, it’s managed to become a party of everyone your mother has ever met. She even considered asking the lady she chats with by the veg in Supervalu. It’s time to rein it in…. politely. Let your mother know that you will “take it into consideration” but not promising any definite yeses. Let her know that your budget is there for a reason and that you want the people closest to you to be there.

Mom Wants to Wear White

A tricky one. While it’s not an official ruling nowadays that no one can wear white, it can still feel like you’re trying to upstage the bride. In this case, we say, let your feelings be heard! Mention that you are uncomfortable with the idea of someone else wearing white as well and that you would appreciate if she didn’t. If she refuses, you can just say, “I just wanted to let you know my wishes”. In the end, there isn’t too much to worry about as everyone will be looking at the bride no matter what!

She Doesn’t Like The In-Laws

Always an awkward situation but if your mother isn’t a fan of your significant other’s clan, there is very little you can do. You won’t be able to force them to like each other but remind your mother that because it’s your day with your loved ones, it’s important that everyone gets along. That includes no eye rolling or smart remarks too.
