Rules Your Wedding Guests Will Break

If you’ve ever been a guest at a wedding, there’s a good chance that you are guilty of breaking at least one of these rules of etiquette. You may be confident that you are knowledgeable about wedding rules, but there are always some offenses that you may not even realize you are committing when you attend a friend or family’s wedding. Here are a few rules that wedding guests break.

Wearing White

I myself am quite guilty of this one, with attending two weddings wearing white or a light shade. The first time around, the bride was completely okay with it but the second time around, I didn’t get quite the same impression. While no one mentioned it or even commented, I left feeling guilty and uncomfortable. Word to the wise, NEVER wear white or the same shade as the bride. Even if she’s okay with it, it’s her day. Full stop!

Using Your Phone

From guests snapping away during the ceremony instead of paying attention, to posting photos online without the couple’s permission and even ignoring wedding speeches by checking their social media feeds; misusing your phone at a wedding is a huge insult to the day! This rule is a little more subjective, so some people may not find this insulting. We say, bear in mind how someone other than yourself may feel about hashtagging a wedding day.

Swapping Seats

This one would bother anyone who had spent a lot of their time perfecting seating plans (a difficult enough task as it is!). The seating cards have been put together for a reason and requesting a seat change or playing musical chairs is definitely unfair to the couple.
