Things Nobody Told Me (Before Planning my Wedding)

Things Nobody Told Me (Before Planning my Wedding)

As I launched into planning my wedding I thought I knew what I wanted, how I would be as a bride-to-be and how everybody else would be too. I was wrong!

Nobody told me (or I didn’t realise) that:

  •  Once the wedding date was set nobody asked me how I was anymore. It was more of “Won’t be long now ‘till the big day?”, or “How are the wedding plans going?”
  •  I would be able to name off dozens of wedding dress designers and where their dresses were stocked in Ireland. A talent I think!
  •  I would become obsessed with the state of my skin, drinking water, getting fresh air, exercise, sleeping properly etc etc!
  • Every conversation would end up as a “wedding conversation”, whether it was with my husband-to-be, my parents, my friends, even the postman.
  • I would be able to tell you how many weeks there were between April 27th and September 27th (our wedding day)
  • People have opinions on everything when it comes to weddings! Everything!
  • You can’t control the weather. For a while leading up to the wedding I did lie in bed at night thinking there had to be some way of making sure the sun shone for our wedding day. There just had to be. I was wrong.
  • I would have very strange wedding dreams for a few weeks leading up to the wedding! All sorts of crazy things were going on in my dreams………… that I won’t go into right now.
  • The items I had no intention of spending a fortune on were indeed the items I spent a fortune on!
  • I planned the wedding as if it was “my” wedding, not “our” wedding. I would like to add that my husband-to-be didn’t mind.
  • What lots of people did tell me was that:
  • It would be the happiest day of my life (it was!)
  • The day would absolutely fly (it did!)
  • It is an exhausting day so have a good breakfast (it was…. And I had ½ a scone)

My conclusion:

My ‘now’ husband is a Saint and

………… Thank God Pinterest wasn’t around when I got married!
