Wedding Planning Basics

Wedding Planning Basics

When it comes to planning a wedding at the beginning, everything can feel a little daunting. Here are some wedding planning basics!

Guests Come First

Figure out the rough amount of people you will be inviting before making your final decision on your wedding venue so you know you will have enough space for your party. As a general rule 25 square feet per person is reasonable. It may seem like a lot but that is also factoring in your band, tables and the dance floor.

Your Date

Know ahead of time if your wedding will fall on any important date like a conference in your venue, a local event or holidays that could affect traffic or availability for hotel rooms.

Lighten your load

The easiest way to trim costs of budget is to cut your guest list. Half of your wedding expenses often go to wining and dining your guests. If your wedding is costing €50 or so a head, just cutting ten people will save you €500.

Don’t be Afraid to Ask

Whether you some crazy idea has popped into your head for your wedding supplier or you’re angling for a discount, the worst you can do is ask. If you’ve built up a relationship with someone there is no harm in putting it out there!

Take it Once Step at a Time

Putting together a wedding is like building a wall. You can’t start plastering the whole thing if it isn’t finished yet! Don’t confirm your photographer until you know your date. Try not to confirm any suppliers until you have your venue and date sorted. The same goes for planning your flowers if you haven’t decided on colours.

Keep a File of Everything

Confirm everything in writing with your vendors and venue. As they say, talk is cheap and a discount someone could offer you at a wedding fair isn’t a done deal unless you see it in writing.

Be Realistic With Your Time

When it comes to the final stretch of your planning (one month), have a careful look at your to-do list and cut 3 things. Not crucial things that you don’t want to do but those last minute DIYs that you never got around to doing.
