What Wedding Superstitions Will You Follow?

Wedding superstitions are so interesting. Many superstitions that were once practiced in Ireland have been forgotten about since. But, if you’re any bit like us, there’s always one you’ll follow… Just in case!

Last week, we asked you what wedding superstitions will you follow for your wedding? Here are the results:

  • Not letting your partner see your wedding attire before the wedding day?   44.2%
  • Not seeing your partner the night before the wedding?                                    25.6%
  • Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue         20.7%
  • Putting out the Child of Prague the night before the wedding?                       9.3%

Not letting your partner see your wedding outfit before the day was the most popular with 44% agreeing that they would keep their attire a secret from their partner. This really is a fun tradition for couples, it can add a lot of mystery and anticipation to the day.

An oldie but a goodie, not seeing your partner before the wedding day also seems popular coming in at 25%. While tradition says that it’s bad luck to see the bride before the wedding, the main reason for it has to do with arranged marriages. The bride would be kept out of the groom’s eye line before the wedding in case he changed his mind once he saw her. We have to say, the modern take on this tradition can be a fun tradition to add a little excitement to the wedding day. Also, the night before should be about relaxing and getting yourself ready for the day ahead. After all, you’ll be spending the rest of your lives together so one night apart won’t do any one any harm. Fun fact, Paul McCartney claims he had only spent one night apart from Linda during their 30 year marriage… How lovely is that?
